Residents at Ashfield came together to celebrate National Strawberries and Cream Day by helping to make a delicious dessert for everyone to enjoy.
Working alongside the home’s chef, residents created a batch of tempting strawberry pavlovas, carefully adding the finishing touches before sitting down to sample the results. One photograph shows a resident placing strawberries on top of an individual pavlova, while others capture the finished desserts in the centre of the table, ready to be enjoyed.
The pavlovas certainly looked the part, with close-up images showing them piled with cream and strawberries, and finished with a drizzle of strawberry sauce. Just as importantly, they tasted wonderful too. Several residents were pictured happily tucking in, with one smiling as he starts his dessert and others clearly enjoying their role in what was jokingly described as quality control.
Food-based activities like this can be a lovely way to encourage participation, conversation and a shared sense of achievement. They offer opportunities to get involved in something practical and enjoyable, while also bringing people together around familiar flavours and seasonal treats.
At Ashfield, this was a cheerful and tasty way to mark the occasion, with residents enjoying both the creative side of preparing the pavlovas and, of course, the pleasure of eating them afterwards.
