With the Chelsea Flower Show beginning this week, residents at Ashfield enjoyed a lovely, relaxed morning creating some beautiful floral artwork of their own.
The activity brought together painting, colouring and conversation, as residents worked on pictures inspired by a range of flowers. The images from the session show residents carefully painting poppies, using coloured pencils to bring an allium to life and adding bright colour to a picture of snowdrops. One video also captures a resident using red paint to colour poppies, showing the calm focus the session encouraged.
Alongside the creative activity, residents also enjoyed watching a Spring Time meadow video on Our Echo. This sparked plenty of conversation about favourite flowers and what residents might like to see planted in the garden. These shared discussions added another gentle layer to the morning, giving everyone the chance to reflect on the season and enjoy familiar sights and ideas together.
The finished artwork was full of colour and personality. Photographs show residents proudly holding up their completed pictures of poppies and alliums, while the finished snowdrop picture is another lovely example of the care and creativity put into the session.
Creative activities like this can support wellbeing in many ways, offering relaxation, self-expression and a chance for meaningful conversation. At Ashfield, it was a peaceful and uplifting way to celebrate the beauty of flowers and the arrival of another gardening season.
