At Ashfield, a recent birthday celebration led to something even more special when Maurice’s birthday wish was granted.

Maurice had said that he wanted to visit his favourite pub, Franklins, see his friends there and enjoy his favourite tipple. That is exactly what the team helped him to do. When he arrived, Maurice received a wonderfully warm welcome from both friends and staff, making the visit feel relaxed, familiar and full of kindness.

The photographs capture some lovely moments from the outing, including Maurice sitting with a carer at a table in the pub, raising a drink together, as well as pictures of him with a local friend and with the landlord and landlady. The visit also offered the chance to enjoy a trip down memory lane, with conversations that clearly brought Maurice a great deal of joy.

The day did not stop there. Maurice also had the opportunity to take a trip around town and tick a few things off his shopping list. One image shows him at the war memorial, pointing at names, while another captures him in the supermarket holding toothpaste as he completed his errands.

This was a simple outing, but a very meaningful one. Supporting residents to do the things that matter to them, whether that is revisiting favourite places, seeing familiar faces or keeping up everyday routines, can make a real difference to wellbeing, independence and happiness.

At Ashfield, it was a lovely reminder that making wishes come true is often about knowing the person and making space for what matters most to them.
