Residents at Ashfield came together to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a day of wildlife, conversation and a little adventure.

The celebrations began in the lounge, where everyone gathered to watch Our Planet. The programme sparked plenty of discussion about the natural world and the animals we share it with, creating a thoughtful and engaging start to the day. One of the images shows residents settled together watching the screen, while another captures a lovely window display featuring pictures of David Attenborough.

After lunch, the mood turned playful as residents headed off on an indoor safari using binoculars. With a jungle backdrop, safari hats and lots of smiles, there were some wonderful photo opportunities. The pictures show residents posing with binoculars and safari hats, fully embracing the theme and enjoying the fun together.

To round off the celebration, residents took part in a David Attenborough true or false quiz, achieving an impressive score of 13 out of 15. A collage from the day captures the quiz in action, along with the cheers that followed a correct answer. The afternoon also included time to look through some of David Attenborough’s beautifully illustrated books while enjoying a well-earned cup of tea.

Days like this are a lovely way to bring learning, memory, conversation and laughter together. At Ashfield, celebrating a national treasure gave residents the chance to share interests, enjoy each other’s company and mark a very special milestone in a meaningful and imaginative way.
