There was a touch of showbiz at Ashfield today as we marked Elton John’s birthday with a brilliant resident-led tribute that had everyone smiling.
Dave, who loves Elton’s music, wanted to celebrate in his own way, and he certainly threw himself into it. Wearing a pair of homemade Elton John-style glasses (as seen in the video), Dave looked the part and brought plenty of personality to the afternoon. He then took centre stage for a singalong tribute, and the video captures a wonderful moment of him enjoying the music and joining in with real confidence.
After Dave’s performance, we kept the good mood going by continuing the afternoon with more Elton classics, along with some of Dave’s other favourite songs. It created a warm, shared atmosphere, with residents and staff enjoying the familiar tunes together.
Activities like this are especially meaningful because they are based on what residents love. Music can lift mood, encourage conversation and connection, and help people express themselves in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. It also supports confidence and identity and today was a lovely example of that, with Dave leading the celebrations.
Happy birthday, Elton John and well done, Dave. You absolutely smashed it!
